This 6 week ceramic workshop is led by Clairy Laurence alongside her studio assistant Bron Thomson, and is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.

The class is unstructured, giving you the freedom to work on your own ideas and projects within your skill level. Across the six weeks, you’ll be supported with core hand-building techniques, surface decoration, glazing, and firing, with guidance tailored to your experience and interests.

Suitable for all skill levels, including complete beginners.

Materials are charged by weight at cost price only, with no markup.
Clay is priced between $15–$22 per kilo, depending on the clay body used.
This covers clay, underglaze, glaze, and firing.

Clairy has over 35 years of experience working with clay, with a practice grounded in hand-building. She is particularly known for her figurative work and for teaching the techniques involved in building faces and expressive forms.

Bron has over six years of experience in hand-building and wheel throwing. She is known for returning to the same vessel form over many years, remaking it until it is refined to perfection. This disciplined approach informs her patient teaching style, which complements Clairy’s more direct guidance.

Classes are held beneath Field Trip Gallery, which means students naturally come onto the gallery’s radar and can apply for future opportunities if they wish.
